- Moving Up to Secondary SchoolYear 7
My advice to Year 6 children would be don't be worried or scared. All year 6 children come to The Buckingham School for two days in July. During the two days here I met all my new classmates and my new form tutor. We had two days of planned lessons, PE and fun activities. It was really helpful and made me feel less nervous about starting school. When we did start in September, each tutor group was allocated a Year 9 mentor to help us find our way from lesson to lesson - this helped us settle in quickly.
My favourite subject is PE because I am really sporty and I love to get active.
- Technology - My Favourite SubjectYear 7
My favourite subject is Technology as you can learn so much by using different tools – the school has amazing technology in woodwork and even has a 3D printer and laser cutters in Graphic Design.
- GCSE Option ChoicesYear 8
In the Spring term of Year 8, we look at the GCSE option choices ready to start in Year 9. The process is really thorough with extensive information for parents. We have the opportunity to talk to teachers from subject areas, and can meet students who presently study the subjects and see the resources available. The choices are based on academic ability and there are many subjects to choose from which provide potential for opportunities Post 16 and beyond.
- Extra Curricular ClubsYear 9
There are so many opportunities at The Buckingham School. Extra curricular clubs run at break, lunchtime and after school. I am part of the Computing Club which runs every week. Students can get a taste of app development, robotics, writing programs amonsgt other computing activities. Not only is it really fun and raises awareness about computer science education, it exposes students to the critical role computing holds in all careers.
- Fantastic OpportunitiesYear 10
The Buckingham School's Performing Arts department has great dance facilities. There is a dedicated large dance studio with a full set of mirrors and ballet barre. I am taking GCSE Dance as one of my subjects - dance is my passion and I am also so lucky to be part of The Buckingham School's Dance School Company. This is a fantastic opportunity to further my love of dance.
- Invaluable Student SupportYear 11
Year 11 is a such an important year working towards GCSE exams. The school is really supportive and plans revision sessions and extra support. The sessions outline useful revision techniques and at times throughout the year, it can be stressful. I have found The Buckingham School mindful of this and they address the emotional attitude too as we approach our GCSE exams.
- Post 16 Life - Centre of Further EducationYear 12 & 13
Studying at The Buckingham School's Centre of Further Education (CFE) is a real experience. The facilities are fantastic - having been totally refurbished in 2013 after a £1.8m Local Authority Investment. We have a study area, break-out room, as well as light and business-like classrooms.
- Post 16 CurriculumYear 12 & 13
The Post 16 curriculum is designed to offer choice and breadth of opportunities so that as well as traditional subjects, students can choose new subjects like photography, psychology and applied law. The Centre of Further Education offers a wide range of both academic and vocational courses, including traditional A levels and BTEC qualifications.
